NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday issued summons to Swapna Patkar, a witness in the Rs1034 crore Patra Chawl scam case to join the investigation.

Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena lawmaker who was recently arrested by the agency, is currently in judicial custody. His wife Varsha Raut was also questioned by the ED.

The ED previously detained Pune businessman Avinash Bhosale in connection with the DHFL Yes Bank case, and according to sources, they also intended to question Raut in this case. The DHFL case and the Patra Chawl case are related, according to the sources.

In conjunction with the land fraud investigation, Raut's property had been attached in April. The ED attached assets belonging to Varsha Raut for Rs 2 crore and property worth Rs 9 crore belonging to Raut's accomplice Pravin Raut.
Eight Alibaug land parcels belonging to Pravin were attached, as well as an apartment that was registered in Varsha Raut's name. Pravin had been detained by the ED in relation to the incident.

A representative of the ED stated, "We had filed a charge sheet in the matter against Pravin, Sarang Wadhawan, and Rakesh Wadhawan of HDIL and Guru Ashish Construction and others were mentioned as an accused in the charge-sheet."

The ED learned throughout the investigation that Pravin reportedly paid Varsha Rs 55 lakh. The money for this came from Pravin's wife's bank account. The ED classified the funds as the proceeds of crime.

It was also alleged that the travel expenses of Sanjay Raut were borne by Pravin which included his hotel stay and air tickets.
