A day after the Lok Sabha election results, the Enforcement Directorate has approached the Delhi High Court to cancel anticipatory bail of Rahul Gandhi’s brother-in-law Robert Vadra. Earlier, bail had been granted to Robert Vadra by the lower court. The ED has been demanding custodial interrogation of Robert Vadra in a money laundering case.
Sources in the agency have told that the ED has incriminating evidence against Robert Vadra and his custodial interrogation is very crucial in the matter. The ED is probing multiple cases involving Robert Vadra which include Bikaner Land deal, London properties and land deal in Haryana's Gurugram.
In connection with the London properties, Robert Vadra was grilled on multiple occasions earlier in February. His wife, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was seen standing with him to show solidarity.
Sources within the agency told that Robert Vadra was then confronted with documentary evidence, focussed on the London properties, but he refuted most of the allegations. Sources claim that most of Robert Vadra's responses appeared to be 'tutored'.
Robert Vadra has been accused of money laundering in the purchase of a London-based property located at 12, Bryanston Square worth 1.9 million GBP (British pounds), allegedly owned by him.
In another case, the ED grilled Robert Vadra in Jaipur in connection with a case registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED is investigating the purchase of 275 acres of land allegedly by the company in the Kolayat area of the border town of Bikaner in Rajasthan, a few years back.
The ED had also attached assets worth Rs 1.18 crore of government officials and others in connection with the case under PMLA. The ED began probing the Bikaner deals in 2015 based on FIRs registered by Rajasthan police.
