Supreme court: Ban on arrest of Arnab Goswami, 3 weeks time for anticipatory bail

On Friday, the Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Dr. DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah has completed the hearing on the petition filed by Arnab Goswami. This petition challenged the FIR lodged against him in various parts of the country. Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Arnab. A total of 8 lawyers were present for cross-examination including Kapil Sibal for Maharashtra, Vivek Tankha for Chhattisgarh, Manish Singhvi for Rajasthan. As soon as the hearing started, the judge asked why so many lawyers have come for a new case.

Arnab Goswami was given 3 weeks time to file an anticipatory bail application. That means till then the arrest will be stopped. The court has also asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner to provide security to Republic TV's office. Also, Arnab's lawyer said, the FIR lodged in Nagpur should be transferred to Mumbai. The attack on Arnab should also be investigated simultaneously. Security should also be given to our office.

The court said that we currently ban any action in all FIRs. Till then, the petitioners should amend their application. Add all FIRs together. Will hear next. The investigation of a single case cannot take place at many places. Lawyer Vivek Tankha, appearing for the Chhattisgarh government, has demanded a ban on Arnab Goswami from making such statements. Chandrachud said, there should be no curb on the media.
