Jerusalem: Israel's health ministry has said that the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine against the coronavirus has decreased by 64 percent in Israel. Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying on Monday that the new figure refers to the period between June 6 and July 3, which indicates that the effectiveness rate of 94.3 percent in protection from infections is much lower than that of May 2 and June 5.

It was noted that the decline was recorded with the spread of delta variants of Covid-19 in Israel. However, the effectiveness of the vaccine in hospitals admitting and preventing serious coronavirus disease is currently estimated at 93 percent in Israel. The Ministry is currently promoting the third vaccine dose for those whose immune system has recorded a functional decline.

However, no decision has been taken to launch a third dose campaign for the entire population at present. Since the launch of the vaccination campaign in Israel on December 20, 2020, more than 56.5 million people, or 60.6 percent of the population, have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 51.8 lakh people have received the second dose.
