Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has expressed Egypt's support for Palestine in resuming the stalled Middle East peace talks focused on the Israeli-Palestinian issue. According to a statement from the presidency, Sisi made the statements during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the margins of the current World Youth Forum in Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
The Egyptian President emphasised the necessity of obtaining an equitable and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian problem in accordance with international legitimacy and pledged Egypt's support for Palestine's diplomatic efforts to resume peace talks. Abbas, for one, commended Egypt's support for the Palestinian cause and its efforts to assist the Palestinian people in conquering various obstacles.
The need for continuing rigorous dialogue and cooperation at both bilateral and trilateral levels (with Jordan's participation) to restart the peace process was agreed upon, according to the statement.
