On August 27, the Northern Railways announced a renaming initiative affecting eight railway stations in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow division. The change, sanctioned by the relevant authorities, will see the stations adopt new identities.
Here is the list of stations and their new names:
Despite the renaming, the numerical codes of these stations listed in the "Alphabetical List of Railway Stations in India" will remain the same. Necessary updates to the names and codes will be issued by the Secretary-General of IRCA in New Delhi.
In response to the renaming decision, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav urged the BJP government to address more pressing issues. Yadav took to social media to criticize the administration, suggesting that improving railway station conditions and safety should take precedence over renaming efforts.
Yadav emphasized the need for better safety measures, stating, "There is a request to the BJP government to focus not just on changing names but also on improving the conditions of the railway stations. And when you get free time from changing names, consider addressing record-breaking railway accidents."
