Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who arrived in Surat with rebel MLAs from Maharashtra, has now reached Guwahati in Assam. Eknath Shinde flew from Surat to Guwahati on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday by a special flight and reached Guwahati in the wee hours of Wednesday. Talking to the media at the Guwahati airport, Eknath Shinde claimed the support of 40 MLAs and said they will take forward Balasaheb Thackeray's Hindutva. There is currently a BJP government in Assam. Shiv Sena minister Eknath Shinde had placed some MLAs in BJP-ruled Gujarat after he rebelled against the party.

It is being said that the top leaders of The Assam BJP and the state government are making arrangements for the stay of the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs in Guwahati. Earlier, sources were quoted as saying that the Maharashtra MLA may stay at the Radisson Hotel in Guwahati. A senior Shiv Sena leader has claimed that rebel party leader Eknath Shinde on Monday appealed to CM Uddhav Thackeray to re-ally with the BJP. The leader said Thackeray had sent his confidant Milind Narvekar and Shinde's aide Ravindra Phatak to Surat to discuss with the rebel leader. He said a call was made to Thackeray from Surat. Shinde has been in Surat with some other party MLAs since Monday night.

"The CM also spoke to Shinde over the phone, due to which Shinde asked Thackeray to form an alliance with the BJP and break the alliance with the Congress and the NCP. The leader said it is not known what Thackeray replied to this. After Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and some MLAs rebelled from the party and reached a hotel in Surat, the party on Tuesday shifted its MLAs to hotels.
