Bengaluru: By-elections have been announced for 15 assembly seats in Karnataka. State Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Kumar has said that voting on these seats will be held on December 5, while counting of votes will take place on December 9. According to the announcement, the model code of conduct will come into effect in the state from November 11. It is known that due to the disqualification of 17 MLAs, 15 by-polls are being held in the state.
Let the Karnataka Assembly Speaker disqualify 17 rebel MLAs before voting on the floor test proposal of the then CM HD Kumaraswamy on July 29. The said MLA was non-existent during the trust vote, which led to the fall of the Congress-JDS coalition government. This opened the way for the BJP to come to power. Earlier, on 21 October, the Commission had announced to hold a by-election on 15 seats, but later the decision was deferred till December 5 as the case was pending in the apex court. Recently, the Supreme Court reserved the verdict in the disqualification case of 17 MLAs of Congress and JD (S) in Karnataka. In the month of September, a judge Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar distanced himself from the case from the bench of judges hearing the case.
