Hyderabad: The Election Commission has advised political parties not to conduct any political activity directly related to the by-elections even in the areas adjacent to the district or constituency where the bye-election is being held. The Election Commission of India has poured water on the plans of political parties, especially the TRS, with regard to holding public meetings in the vicinity of Huzurabad assembly constituency where the by-election is to be held on October 30.

TRS had planned to hold a public meeting. TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao was scheduled to address Penchikalpeta of Husnabad constituency located near Huzurabad constituency on October 27. But the Election Commission said that they have noticed that some political parties/candidates were organizing election activities in areas adjoining the district/constituency where by-elections are being held.

The Election Commission further clarified that if any election activity related to the ongoing by-election is conducted anywhere within the district, all instructions relating to model code of conduct, covid protocol and expenditure monitoring will be applicable. The concerned District Election Officer will take all necessary action in such cases and ensure strict compliance. The TRS, which is arranging the public meeting, is now confused as to what to do. He wanted to hold meetings with about one lakh people.
