Chennai: DMK has suffered a major setback amid the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. In the disputed statement, the Election Commission has taken action against DMK leader A Raja and banned him from campaigning for 48 hours. Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) had said that the raja's statement was not only derogatory but also demeaned a mother's motherhood, which is a violation of the code of conduct.

The Election Commission, on March 30, expressed dissatisfaction over a Raja's reply and sentenced him. Raja had to file a reply by March 31 at 6 p.m. but he demanded more respite. The commission said it could not give more respite. Thereafter, on the basis of the documents, evidence, and other material provided, the Commission delivered the verdict. DMK MP A Raja had made derogatory remarks on Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami, saying he (Palaniswamy) was born out of the wrong way. A Raja praised DMK chief MK Stalin for being born on the right track while the current CM Palaniswami of Tamil Nadu has been born in the wrong way.

There was a lot of uproar over the statement. On the basis of the evidence, the Commission has stated that Raja's statement is not only derogatory but also demeans the motherhood of a mother who is opposed to the model code of conduct. The Commission then sought a response from A Raja.
