Election Commission Team to Visit Punjab on Wednesday to Assess Poll Preparedness

Amritsar: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra will be on a two-day visit to Punjab today along with election commissioners and other top officials of the Commission. The commission will review the preparations for the state assembly elections to be held early next year. A team of election commission will visit the state in view of the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.

The Election Commission team will arrive here to review the poll preparedness. It is believed that the Election Commission may announce dates in January for assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab. The Election Commission team will stay in Punjab till Wednesday and Thursday to get a variety of information. After which a team of the Commission is likely to visit Goa next week.

The election commission team will remain in Punjab on Wednesday and Thursday. The first meeting of the State Congress Campaign Committee constituted for the Punjab Assembly elections will also be held in Chandigarh today. Former state Congress chief Sunil Jakhar was made the chairman of the campaign committee by the party.
