New Delhi: The results of the elections held in 11 Uttar Pradesh and 5 Legislative Council seats in Maharashtra are coming today. While the credibility of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is at stake in Uttar Pradesh, it is the first litmus test of the Mahavikas Aghadi government led by Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra.

This election is important for the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh because it wants to increase the strength in the Legislative Council as well. This is the reason that BJP has clearly fielded candidates from all the five seats in the Graduate Election Block and four out of six seats in the Teacher Election Section. In one seat of the Graduate Election Division, the BJP has supported the teacher's union candidate and has left another seat. The SP has fielded candidates for all 11 seats. Due to this, there is being seen as a close fight between the candidates of teacher organizations of both the parties.

In the elections going on in these 5 seats in Maharashtra's graduate and teacher sector, there will not only be a tough contest between the Mahavikas Aghadi government and the BJP, but a new electoral equation will also be seen. Out of the 5 MLC seats, three are graduates from Aurangabad, Pune and Nagpur regions while Pune and Amravati teachers quota have MLC seats. This is a direct fight between the ruling Mahavikas Aghadi and the opposition BJP.
