Amaravati,(Andhra Pradesh): State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar has strongly objected to the state government's attitude to local body elections. He described it as "unconstitutional" and complained to the YS Jagan Mohan government on Wednesday along with Governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan. The state government disagreed with the panchayat elections in February. He described the state government's attitude as damaging the independence of constitutional bodies like the state election commission. In a letter to the Election Commissioner, General Secretary Neelam Sawaney referred to Covid-19, saying, "I will inform the Election Commission that the state government will resume the process of suspension as soon as conditions favour local body elections."

Official sources said the state Election Commissioner was considering legal action against the state government in this case. The Election Commissioner had to cancel the video meeting scheduled for Wednesday. The state government has ordered the concerned authorities not to attend the meeting, after which they have to cancel the meeting. In a 40-minute meeting with the Governor, the Election Commissioner referred to the letter of the Chief Secretary and said that the state government was not in a state of mind allowing the constitutional process. According to official sources, Ramesh Kumar informed the Governor about the state Election Commission's stand for the pl and local body elections pending in the High Court.

This year more than two lakh students have joined government schools in Andhra Pradesh.
