The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its contenders for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. They've put forward four candidates for key seats in the state.

The candidates unveiled on Tuesday include Jagdeep Singh Brar, Amansher Singh, Pawan Kumar Tinu, and Ashok Parashar Pappi. All four are currently serving as members of Punjab's legislative assembly.

Pawan Kumar Tinu, who recently joined AAP from the Shiromani Akali Dal, is nominated from the Jalandhar seat, which falls under the SC quota.

In a parallel move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revealed its twelfth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha Elections. The list features seven candidates from different states, including Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.

In Maharashtra, Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhonsale, with a notable political lineage, will contest from the Satara seat, aiming to challenge NCP(SP) candidate Shashikant Shinde.

Meanwhile, in West Bengal, Abhijit Das has been nominated by the BJP for the Diamond Harbour seat, where he'll face competition from Abhishek Mukherjee, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate and Mamata Banerjee's nephew.

The election schedule kicks off on April 19, with results expected by June 4, 2024. The elections will be held in seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1, 2024.

Commenting on the manifestos released by the BJP and the Congress, economists suggest that while the BJP's manifesto focuses on continuity of existing reforms and welfare schemes, the Congress' plans may have significant fiscal implications.

The BJP's manifesto emphasizes macro and financial stability, with a focus on low inflation, strong external balances, high growth, and fiscal prudence. On the other hand, the Congress' manifesto leans towards populist measures aimed at garnering votes, with plans for reforms in macro stability, infrastructure, healthcare, among others.
