Kakinada: The election became necessary after the removal of the incumbent Kakinada Municipal Corporation Mayor SPwani and Deputy Mayor Saathibabu through a no-confidence motion on October 5. According to the instructions of the Election Commission, elections will be held for Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Kakinada Municipal Corporation on Monday. However, Pavani approached the court to get justice. The court allowed the motion, but directed election officials not to disclose. Until the court gives its final verdict.

Meanwhile, the government removed Pavani and Kala Sathibabu from the posts of mayor and deputy mayor and also issued a gazette notification. In such a situation, 40th Mandal councilor Sasiva Prasanna is likely to contest for the post of mayor. Siva Prasanna was elected as a councilor on behalf of the Telugu Desam in the 2017 elections, but supported the ruling YSRC and became a rebel in the TDP along with another 21 councillors.

At present, the rebel councilors of the TDP said they have a strength of 36 in the council, which includes three ex-officio members, eight from the ruling YSRC and two BJP councillors. The TDP currently has only 10 councillors. The TDP leadership has not even issued any whip to the councilors of its party regarding the elections.
