New Delhi: P Chidambaram's anticipatory bail plea in the INX media-related Enforcement Directorate (ED) case was heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for ED during the hearing, said if Chidambaram is granted anticipatory bail by the apex court, it will have disastrous consequences.
Tushar Mehta said that this is because it will have an adverse impact on many issues like Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksi, Nirav Modi, Sharda Chit fund, Terror Funding. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed the demand for arrest questioning without showing evidence, saying that the agency is responsible for deciding how to investigate. To show evidence to the accused who is moving freely means an invitation to remove the remaining evidence.
Tushar Mehta said it is entirely the authority of the agency on how to proceed with the investigation. In terms of the case, the agency determines at what stage the evidence should be revealed and what not. If all the evidence, before being arrested, the witnesses are placed before the accused, it will allow the accused to tamper with the evidence and finish the money trail.
