'From slum dwellers to helping farmers..,' Rana Ayyub took money in everyone's name

New Delhi: Journalist Rana Ayyub has been booked for money laundering by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He is alleged to have cheated in the money collected for social welfare. After this, Rs 1.77 crore of Ayyub has been recovered. According to the FIR, Rana Ayyub had collected a total fund of Rs 2,69,44,680 on the online crowdfunding platform Ketto. The money was transferred to the bank accounts of his sister and father.

Out of this amount, Rs 72,01,786 was transferred to his own bank account. Along with this, his sister Ifafat Shaikh had Rs 37,15,072 in her account and rs 1,60,27,822 in the bank account of his father Mohammad Ayyub Waqf. Later, the entire amount from the accounts of his sister and father was transferred to his own account. Ayyub informed the investigating agency about the expenditure of only Rs 31,16,770. After examining the documents, it was revealed that only Rs 17,66,970 has been spent out of the fund.

According to the agency, Rana Ayyub had made fake bills to produce evidence of money being spent in relief operations. Expenses incurred for private travel were stated to be for relief work. The ED said the investigation revealed that Rana Ayyub had collected the funds in the name of charity in a planned and systematic manner, but the funds were not fully used for charity. The ED said Rana Ayyub deposited Rs 50 lakh out of the funds in fixed deposits and did not use them for relief work. With this, he deposited a total of Rs 74.50 lakh in the PM CARES and CM Relief Fund.  

Why the amount is withdrawn:-

A) In his first campaign, Rana Ayyub had raised a fund of Rs 82,55,899 to help corona victims, out of which he had withdrawn Rs 79,63,640. In this campaign, 1,00,983 US dollars (Rs 7,582,483) were returned to the donors.

B) Rs 71,37,217 was raised, Rs 68,84,560 was withdrawn in the name of assistance to slum dwellers and farmers. In addition, USD 75,600 was collected and USD 73,332 was withdrawn.

C)  Rs 42,01,368 was raised in the name of relief work for Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra, out of which Rs 40,53,640 was withdrawn. In addition, USD 37,203 was raised and USD 36,087 was withdrawn. The amount from this campaign was also transferred to the bank account of Rana Ayyub's father.
