Arsenal, under the supervision of their new head coach Mikel Arteta, won their first win in the English Premier League on Wednesday. Arsenal beat Manchester United 2–0. On 20 December, Arteta was appointed head coach in place of Unai Imeri. Under his supervision, Arsenal had to draw 1–1 against Bournemouth and then lost 1–2 against Chelsea in their own home.

Nicholas Pepe and Sukratis Papastathopoulos scored for Arsenal. Pepe scored in the eighth minute while Sukratis scored his team's victory in the 42nd minute. After this win, Arsenal have scored 27 points from 21 matches. He is 10th in the table while Manchester United have lost after two consecutive wins. He is in fifth place with 31 points from 21 matches.

Liverpool are in first place with 55 points from 19 matches while Leicester City are second with 45 points from 21 matches. Manchester City have 44 points from 21 matches and are in third place.
