New Delhi: In an extraordinary leap forward for cosmology, the Euclid space telescope was flawlessly launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida on Saturday. Named after the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid, this groundbreaking mission aims to unlock the secrets of the perplexing dark universe.

Riding aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, the Euclid telescope embarked on its celestial journey around 11 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT) after being carefully nestled in the rocket's cargo bay. The launch marked a resounding success, propelling Euclid towards its ultimate destination—a point in space located approximately 1.5 million kilometres from Earth.

Euclid's primary objective is to meticulously study the distribution of galaxies in the universe. By meticulously mapping these galactic structures, the telescope will unravel the mysteries surrounding dark energy—an enigmatic force responsible for the universe's accelerated expansion.
