Muzaffarnagar: Recently free school bags given to the students were ripped in half a month. 30 to 40 % of the bags became useless, this raises questions about the quality of the bags. School bags were distributed to one lakh 43 thousand students in the district at a cost of about Rs. 1 crore. One lakh 43 thousand students are studying in 881 primaries and 382 upper primary schools in Muzaffarnagar district. Students are given free uniforms, shoes, and socks as well as school bags. This time the distribution of school bags started in August, which was completed by September. The school bag was supplied directly from Lucknow. The price of one bag was fixed at about 121 rupees. Accordingly, about one crore 73 lakh rupees were spent on one lakh 43 thousand school bags.

According to the sources, some teachers of the council schools said that some bags were torn within eight to ten days. As soon as the students put the books in them, the bottom of the bag was uprooted. On Wednesday, many of the students of Mohalla Khalapar, who were going to a council school on Roorkee Road, had torn bags. When a student put his hand in his bag and found it was completely torn. The child said that the bag was torn a few days after receiving it. A student was seen carrying books in a bag made of plastic bags. She told that the bag was found but was torn. School bags of many other children have also been torn. It is said that about 30 to 40 % of school bags were damaged, or torn.

Teachers are not saying anything openly: On the other hand, sources say that the supply of school bags has been done from the government level. From there the firm was determined for distribution and supplies were sent directly to the schools. Verification was done from the authorities while the bags were being distributed. The quality of the supplied bags was poor as opposed to the standard indicated in the sample bags. Despite this, the bags were distributed under pressure.
