Tunisia: Tunisia's counter-terrorism police on Tuesday detained Ali Larayed, a former prime minister and senior member of the Islamic opposition Ennahda party, for a day, according to lawyers, following an investigation into allegations of sending terrorists into Syria.

Police delayed the hearing of Tunisia's dissolved parliament speaker and leader of the Islamic opposition, Rached Ghanouchi, by nearly 14 hours.

Lawyer Mokthar Jamai told Reuters that Laraydh is expected to appear before a judge on Wednesday.
Ennahda rejects claims of terrorism and portrays them as political vendetta against an opponent of President Kais Saied.

Since Sayed seized most of power last summer, shutting down parliament and establishing rule by decree, Ghanouchi, 81, accused Saeed of orchestrating an anti-democratic coup. Syed's authority has been largely formalized by a new constitution that was approved in a referendum in July.

Several former security officials and two members of the Ennahda were detained last month, on suspicion of helping Tunisians travel for jihad.

According to security and official sources, some 6,000 Tunisians are believed to have traveled to Syria and Iraq to join Daesh-like jihadist organizations in the past ten years. While some managed to escape and return to Tunisia, many were killed.
