Facebook has announced that it is launching the option of making voice and video calls end-to-end encrypted on Messenger as well as updated control for missing messages. People hope that their messaging apps will be secure and private and with these new features we are giving them more control over how private they want to keep their calls and chats, Ruth Kricheli, product managing director of Messenger, said in a statement.

The company said that since 2016, they have been given the option to secure one-on-one text chats with end-to-end encryption. In the last year, the messenger has seen an increase in the use of audio and video calling with more than 150 million video calls in a day. We are now introducing calling in this chat mode so that you can secure your audio and video calls with the same technology if you choose, Kricheli said.

End-to-end encryption is already widely used by apps like WhatsApp to protect private conversations from hackers and criminals. The content of your messages and calls is secure in end-to-end encrypted conversations from the moment it delivers your device to the receiver's device, the company said.
