Hindustan Unilever can now use the name 'Glow and Lovely' instead of 'Fair and Lovely'. The company has applied for the trademark registration for this. The company has decided to remove the word 'Fair' from the Fair & Lovely Cream. Unilever, a subsidiary of multinational company Unilever PLC, has not announced a new name for its 'Fair and Lovely' product, but the company has changed the name 'Glow and Lovely' to 'Controller General of Patent Design and Trademark' on 17 June 2020. The company's application has been sent for "Vienna codification". When contacted Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) in this regard, the company spokesperson said that trademark protection is an important aspect for any brand and in this case, the company has applied for several trademarks in 2018.

The company has taken this step at a time when voices are being raised worldwide against racial discrimination. However, the company says that its move has nothing to do with the anti-racism movement going on in western countries right now. They have been working for many years to improve their brand.

The company said that a new holistic approach will be adopted in the case of its other skincare products. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) said in a statement, "The company is taking steps to make the brand more inclusive from the point of view of beauty. Under this, the company will remove the word 'Fair' from its brand 'Fair and Lovely'. Regulatory approval is awaited for the new name. We are expecting a change in name in the next few months. The company will also announce a new name for 'Fair and Lovely Foundation' under this change. This foundation was formed in 2003 with the intention of giving stipend to women to help them complete their education.
