Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "A fake announcement, purportedly issued from my Twitter account, about non-opening of schools, is being circulated on WhatsApp. This is a fake message and has been ignored. to.@assampolice Please file an FIR." And he has asked the Assam Police to register an FIR for spreading fake news allegedly issued to his Twitter account.

The message shared by his handle also has a post till August 26, 2021.

Talking to media persons, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Assam government was hopeful that schools, colleges and public transport would open from September 1. He said the government was waiting for the COVID positivity rate to drop to 500 cases per day. Currently, the positivity rate was above 700 cases per day. The Assam government will take a decision on starting physical classes for third year of degree, final year of post graduation and class X from September 1. Sarma appealed to the students and teachers, professors and staff to take the COVID vaccine. Students must also take the COVID vaccine, he said. Hostels will open only for those students who have been vaccinated. The Chief Minister said that within 15 days teachers, professors and students should get the COVID vaccine so that we can open schools and colleges.
