Farhan Akhtar is one of the renowned actors and directors in Bollywood.  She was born on 9 January 1974 in Mumbai. He is the son of famous Bollywood writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. At the age of just 17, Farhan Akhtar started working as an assistant director.  He is a college dropout. After this he sat at home for almost two years and used to watch movies all the time.

Farhan Akhtar once said in an interview that his mother was very upset about this. He threatened to throw Farhan out of the house After this Farhan started writing stories like his father and then he wrote the story of the film 'Dil Chahta Hai'.  He also made his directorial debut in 2001 with Dil Chahta Hai. The film was a super hit in theatres.  He also received National Award for the film.

Farhan’s mother played very important role in his career. Honey Irani was the first wife of Javed Akhtaar. He was also a screenwriter. Both had married in 1972. At that time Honey was only 17 years old. Both Javed Sahib and Irani separated in 1978. Both of them got divorced in 1985. Javed and Honey's relationship lasted for seven years but due to growing closeness with Shabana Azmi, the relationship ended. After that Javed Akhtar married actress Shabna Azmi in 1984.

On the work front, Farhaan started his acting career in the year 2008 through the film Rock On. Apart from this, worked in films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Karthik Calling Calling, Luck by Chance and Sky is Pink. On the personal front,  Farhan Akhtar married Adhuna in the year 2000. In the year 2017, he separated from his wife Adhuna. Farhan and Adhuna have two daughters – Shakya and Akira.  After this he got married to long time girlfriend Shibani Dandekar.
