Kullu tomatoes are being sold in the Mandi for Rs 35 to 40 kg. Along with the apple being sold at the right price, the price of tomatoes has increased in the valley.
Farmers had to suffer a lot with the sale of cauliflower, cabbage and peas. Tomatoes were sold from 5 to 10 rupees/kg last year. This time farmers are getting three times the price of tomatoes. Farmers have hoped that last year's loss will be recovered this year. Along with the farmers of the valley, the youngsters have turned towards the business of tomato production. On Tuesday morning, a crate of tomatoes was sold from Rs 750 to 800 in the vegetable Mandi of the valley.
Farmers Pawan, Guddu, Chipandra, Mohan Lal, Budharam, Duni Chand, Prem Chand, Shobha Ram, Govind Singh, Balwant said "Tomato prices fall every year during the rainy season in vegetable markets. The price of the crop is being received well this year. The farmers didn't expect this. The farmers are very happy with the price of tomatoes". On the other hand, Khushal Thakur, president of Kullu and Snor Valley Aarti Association, said that "Farmers were not able to get the price due to lack of demand even after good production of tomatoes in the valley last year. This year, farmers are getting better prices of tomatoes due to low crop yields."
