 Farmers On Wednesday took to the streets in Uttar Pradesh to raise the demand for sugarcane price. On the call of Bharatiya Kisan Union, farmers blocked wheelchairs in more than one hundred and fifty places including highways in the sugarcane belt. Meanwhile, even after being stopped by the police, farmers set fire to sugarcane near the Vidhan Bhavan in Lucknow. Along with sending a memorandum to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to increase the price of sugarcane, the farmers have warned that if the price increase does not happen till December 20, the district headquarters will be occupied on December 21.

According to the media report, BKU had called for a state-wide 'Chakka Jam' for sugarcane price. On this, farmers closed the roads from 11 am to 2 pm in many places in the state. In Muzaffarnagar, national and state highways were blocked at 14 places, while in Bijnor, 40 were blocked. National and state highways stalled in Moradabad at four places, while national highways were stopped in Amroha. National and state highways were stopped at six places in Hapur, eight in Saharanpur, nine in Bulandshahr, three in Shamli, four in Faizabad, eight in Meerut, four in Baghpat, five in Aligarh and three in Shahjahanpur.

For your information, let us tell you that farmers have blocked traffic at many other places including Sambhal, Modinagar of Ghaziabad, Shahzadnagar of Rampur, Jewar Gol Chowk in Noida, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lal Chowk in Sitapur and Sadabad Road in Mathura. In Lucknow, the police tried to stop the farmers by blocking many places, but the farmers reached near the OCR building on Devan Road and Vidhan Sabha Marg. A memorandum has also been sent to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on behalf of Dharmendra Malik, media in-charge of BKU. In this, citing non-increase of sugarcane price for three years, the Chief Minister has been demanded to increase its price to Rs 450 per quintal.
