Authorities are investigating a wave of bomb and grenade attacks that shook Balochistan just days before the upcoming general elections, the report reads.

The Pakistan Election Commission has called for detailed reports from the Balochistan inspector general of police and chief secretary following the attacks.

The violence, which occurred on February 8, saw at least ten explosions across different parts of Balochistan, resulting in the death of one individual, as per a provincial government official cited by Dawn News.

Following the attacks, security measures have been heightened across all cities and towns in the province.

Various targets were hit during the onslaught, including several police stations and deputy commissioners' offices. Six individuals, including a police officer and a jail warden, sustained injuries in the attacks.

The senior official noted that the bombings and grenade assaults took place in Quetta, Khuzdar, and Turbat, targeting the offices of political parties such as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), National Party, Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), and Jamiat-e-Islami-Faizal (JUI-F).

A tragic incident occurred in Quetta's Spinny area, where a bomb planted along a footpath exploded, claiming the life of a passerby. The victim, identified as 84-year-old Abdul Khaliq Shah, suffered severe injuries due to the blast.

The explosion, which utilized approximately 8 kilograms of explosives, caused significant damage in the vicinity. Although there were no election-related events nearby, security had been heightened due to the impending polls.

In another attack near Quetta, an assistant sub-inspector sustained injuries when unknown assailants hurled a hand grenade at the Shalkot police station.

Additionally, the central prison in Mastung was targeted with hand grenades, resulting in structural damage and injuries to a jail warder.

Other incidents included grenade attacks on deputy commissioners' offices in Dhadar and Panjgur, as well as an assault on the residence of the Kachhi deputy commissioner, resulting in one injury.

Despite the violence, authorities managed to prevent casualties in certain instances, such as grenade lobbing at police and Frontier Corps (FC) posts in Turbat and an attempted attack on the Hub City Police Station.

Furthermore, a grenade found at the gate of the Pakistan Coast Guards Office was safely neutralized before it could cause harm.

Investigations into the attacks are ongoing as security measures remain heightened ahead of the general elections.
