Mizoram Sports Minister Robert Romavia Royte said on Saturday that the state will soon have a FIFA certified football ground in the city of Kolasib near the Assam border. Royte traveled to that place and oversaw the construction of the Sports Academy of India (SAI) 's Sports Academy at Saidan in Kolasib and the laying of artificial grass on the football field there.
Royte said that the artificial turf to be laid on the grounds of the SAI Academy in Saidan was certified by FIFA and is on the verge of completion. He said, "Mizoram will soon have its first FIFA certified football ground." He hoped that football ground will greatly benefit the players of the state. The Sports Minister also visited Kovanpui and Vairangte in Kolasib district and inspected the feasibility of new sports infrastructure and the progress of existing infrastructure.
He said that the existing football ground in Kavanpui will be upgraded to a standard ground by laying artificial grass. He oversaw the feasibility of a standard basketball court and a standard volleyball court in Kawepui, which are in the pipeline. Royte said that the Mizo National Front (MNF)-led state government will set up a sports training center at Wairengte on the Mizoram-Assam border to fulfill its pre-election promise.
