New Delhi: Comedian Vir Das has been embroiled in controversy over his anti-India statement. He has been facing a lot of opposition on social media. An FIR has also been lodged against Vir Das in Mumbai. Vir Das recently posted a video of his performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC on his YouTube channel.
Vir has mentioned the dual character of the people of India before the people of the United States in this six-minute video. The video has angered people and accused Vir Das of hating the country. Bombay High Court counsel Ashutosh J Dubey has filed a complaint against the comedian. A copy of which he posted from his social media handle. In the caption, he wrote, "I have lodged a complaint against comedian Vir Das with the Mumbai Police for tarnishing India's image in the US, which is inflammatory. He has deliberately made provocative and derogatory statements against India, Indian women and the Prime Minister of the country.''
Excerpts from Vir Das's poem, 'Two Indias':-
I come from India where AQI is 9000 but we still lie on our roofs and see stars at night.
I come from India where we worship women during the day and gangrape at night.
You come from an India, @VirDas, where you make a living by insulting your own nation!!

You come from an India, that allows your disgusting, derogative nonsense to pass off as freedom of speech!!
You come from an India, that has tolerated your slander for way to long!!#Shame pic.twitter.com/YGRfDqQknj
Vir Das is now facing opposition because of words that insult the country. People are also calling him a 'traitor.' BJP activist Preeti Gandhi has also expressed her anger by sharing the video. She has written that this statement about the country is disgusting and nonsense. Seeing the matter escalate, Vir Das has also clarified by sharing posts on social media. Vir Das has written that his intention was not to insult the country but to remind that the country is "great" even after all its issues.
