Amritsar: Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi will meet a committee of 32 farmers' organisations on November 17. In this regard, Buta Singh Burjgil, President, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Dacounda) said, "A total of 666 farmers have lost their lives so far in this protest on the fronts. The Punjab government has so far employed family members of about 200 farmers. So, we will interact with them whether all families will be handed over job appointment letters soon or is it a pick and choice policy?''

Earlier, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and a government job was announced by the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, for families where farmers have died at the protest sites. Farmers will also discuss the issue of shortage of DAP and paddy procurement with CM Channi. The farmers will meet CM Channi in the morning. 'We will also talk about the compensation announced by the Punjab government for the cotton crop which has been damaged due to the pink bollworm attack,' Burjgil said.

He said the weather and the attack of pink bollworm have also damaged the yield of maize. We want to ensure power supply to vegetable farmers. Several other issues will also be discussed with the Punjab CM as farming is facing so many problems amid a year-long struggle against agricultural laws.
