Fire breaks out at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi, No injury reported

A fire broke out at an All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) hospital building here on Wednesday evening, Delhi Fire Service officials said. No injury has been reported so far in the fire that broke out on the ninth floor of the hospital's Convergence Block, the official said.

It is told that some labs and offices were destroyed. One lab which was gutted is the Covid Laboratory where Covid tests were conducted. There are no wards with patients in this building.

The Convergence Block building mostly houses laboratories and the examination section.

It is basically a diagnostic building with multipurpose labs, examination section as well as an in-built auditorium with AIIMS SET Facility.

According to the fire department, a call about the fire was received at around 10.30 pm after which 22 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Fire-fighting operations are underway and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the officials said.
