Fire breaks out at Rourkela Steel Plant, no loss of life reported

A minor fire broke out in Rourkela Steel Plant around 3 am on Monday. According to the reports the incident happened in the control room of steel melting shop-2 of Steel Authority of India Limited. The officials have confirmed no loss of life till now. 

The RSP states that "No one was injured in the incident. The work is going on war footing to restore the normal operations at SMS-2." However, the fire accident damaged all electronic equipment and electrical appliances worth lakhs. The fire services personnel of RSP reached the spot immediately after information received. The officers doused off the blazes. As per the information, the reason behind such a major fire is said to be boiling in the slag pot. Though no one was injured, production has been affected, said the RSP.

 

The incident took place following a sudden outburst of the slag boiler. CEO and other senior officers of the steel plant visited the spot and work is still continuing to restore the cable and normalcy at the earliest. Whereas Rourkela SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said "Station House Officer (SHO) visited the accident site to collect further information." In the meanwhile, a committee has been constituted to identify the exact cause of the fire accident.
