5 policemen suspended for firing amid voting in Assam

Assembly Speaker Aminul Haque Lashkar was questioned for the second time in Assam in the second phase of polling on April 1 in the case of firing on the mob. Also, his five bodyguard policemen have been suspended.

On April 1, three people were injured in a shootout by bodyguards following a clash between BJP and AIUDF supporters at booth number 463 of the Sonai constituency, officials said. According to the police, after questioning Aminul Haq twice for several hours in the past 48 hours, his statement was recorded. Bhanwarlal Meena, SP of Kachar said that 9 policemen attached to the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly have been removed from duty with immediate effect. Five of them have been suspended for firing.

The SP said that Lashkar can go to the polling booth as an election candidate, but cannot go to the booth with his security personnel. During this time, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district, Kirti Jalli, the magistrate has ordered an inquiry into the incident and has also issued it. Village Head Lutha Begum of Dhanehori said that when the voting was going on, Lashkar went to the booth, which was opposed by the people.
