Ghaziabad: The wait for the US fighter helicopter Apache to join the Indian Air Force's fleet of fighter aircraft and heli-cops is coming to an end. According to sources, the first consignment of the fighter helicopter is scheduled to arrive at Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad on Saturday (27 July). The first batch is expected to include 3 to 4 helicopters.

The first batch of Apache helicopters from the US arrives in India on Saturday but will have to wait another month for the deployment of the first Apache squadron at Pathankot. It may be mentioned that India has signed 22 Apache helicopters with the US. According to sources, Apache helicopters will reach the Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad by AN 224 transport aircraft on July 27. These will be prepared here and will be sent to Pathankot for formal induction into the Indian Air Force in the last week of August.

The first squadron of Apache will be stationed at Pathankot, the first of which will be the Commanding Officer, Group Captain M Shaylu. The 125 Helicopter Squadron (125 HRON SQUAD) of the Air Force already deployed at Pathankot currently uses MI-35 helicopters and will now be the first Apache Squadron in the country. The second squadron will be deployed at Jorhat in Assam. It is expected that all Apache Indian Airforce will be available by 2020.
