The first commercial batch of Bharat Biotech's anti-COVID-19 vaccine 'Covaxin' was released on Sunday from the new factory in Gujarat's Ankleshwar in Bharuch district by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

Mandaviya took the news to his Twitter handle writing: "Vaccination is the most important thing to strengthen the country's fight against coronavirus. Released the first commercial batch of #COVAXIN from Bharat Biotech's plant at Ankleshwar, Gujarat today. This will increase the supply of vaccines in the country and will help the vaccine reach every Indian," soon after the event.

Bharat Biotech stated in May that its subsidiary's Ankleshwar plant will produce an extra 200 million doses of Covaxin. The Hyderabad-based company stated that the manufacturing unit would be used to produce additional 200 million doses of Covaxin. Meanwhile, according to statistics published by the Union Health Ministry, India had delivered 63.09 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine in a national program as of Sunday morning.
