Delhi: United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj are holding bilateral meeting ahead of 2+2 meet in New Delhi.

Earlier United States Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held the bilateral meeting in Delhi earlier today. First ever 2+2 Dialogue between the Foreign and Defence Ministers of India is expected to be historic.

US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Jim Mattis landed in the national capital New Delhi on Wednesday. In a special gesture, EAM Sushma Swaraj received United States Secretary of State Pompeo at the airport on his first visit to India.

The focus of the talks is to extend the strategic relationship and decide issues related to India’s engagement with Russia and Iran.

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dunford is also part of the US delegation in India. This dialogue twice was postponed. India’s defense tie with Russia and oil trade with Iran will not be the prime agenda of the ‘2+ 2’ dialogue, as Pompeo indicated before his entrance in New Delhi. The dialogue is the highest level of talks between the two nations.
