Itanagar: The two countries held the 17th round of high-level military talks on December 20 following tensions arising out of a clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang sector on December 9. It focused on resolving the remaining issues in eastern Ladakh. However, there has been no sign of moving forward in resolving the remaining issues. A joint statement issued here on Thursday (December 22) said the two sides exchanged views in an open and constructive manner to resolve relevant issues.

It said both sides have agreed to remain in close contact and maintain dialogue through military and diplomatic channels, as well as work for mutually acceptable resolution of outstanding issues at the earliest. According to media reports, the Corps Commander-level talks have taken place nearly a month after PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping shook hands and greeted each other during the G20 summit in Bali. People with knowledge of the talks, which took place on December 20 at the Chushul-Moldo border point, said the talks began at around 9.30 am and went on for about 10 hours.

It is being told that the Indian side stressed resolving the issues related to the remaining deadlocked points of Demchok and Depsang in eastern Ladakh at the earliest. Following the progress of the last meeting (16th round) held on July 17, the two sides exchanged views on the resolution of issues related to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the western sector in an open and constructive manner, the statement said.
