CHATTOGRAM:  On the fourth day of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Saturday, Bangladesh reached 119/0 at lunch and trailed India by 394 runs. The opening pair of left-handed batsmen Najmul Hossain Shanto and debutant Zakir Hasan both scored half century.

India did manage to find some turn and bounce on a pitch that appears to have slowed down significantly, but it wasn't enough to prevent a wicketless session. The Indian bowling attack was frustrated and rendered ineffectual by Shanto (64 not out) and Hasan (55 not out), who displayed outstanding effort, tenacity, and patience.

Beginning day four from a score of 42/0 in 12 overs, Shanto hit Mohammed Siraj for back-to-back boundaries via an off-drive and a flick through backward square leg, bringing the opening partnership's total to fifty runs.

Siraj managed to defeat Shanto a few times, while Ravichandran Ashwin hit the left-handed hitters' inside edges. However, India was unable to make a breakthrough as Umesh Yadav was cut out by debutant Zakir Hasan for a boundary.

The shot of the session was then delivered by Zakir, who went inside-out over Ashwin's cover. The off-spinner decided to alter his strategy as a result, switching to bowling from over the wicket and finding the turn to defeat Shanto's outer edge right away.

With a push through the off-side from Ashwin, Shanto got his fifty. With a strong pull from Siraj through the backward square leg, Shanto brought the partnership's century.
