New Delhi: Mairaj Ahmed Khan,the Indian shooter made a winning start to his crusade at the ISSF World Cup by winning a silver medal in men's skeet occasion in Rio de Janeiro.His feat gave India its first skeet medal at a World Cup.

Mairaj,40 completed with an overall tally of 14 in the gold medal match still lost out of Marcus Svensson of Sweden in shoot after the latter was too tied at 14. Tamarro Casandro of Italy won the bronze.For qualifying, Mairaj shot 122 qualifying,15/16 in semi-final stage of six-men final round and then 14+1 in the gold medal match.

Before this, he became India’s first yet skeet shooter to won an Olympic quota place.

Mairaj qualified for his maiden Olympics in September past year at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup that was seized in Lonato in Italy, final in sixth place and so becoming the first Indian to qualify in the skeet event at the Olympics.
