ISLAMABAD: Five Pakistan Army personnel were killed in a blast on Sunday from an improvised explosive device during a clearance operation in Balochistan’s Kahan location, the military’s media wing said.

A press notification from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operation was underway since Saturday when the improvised explosive device  (IED) exploded close to the leading party.

Resultantly, Captain Fahad and four other valiant citizens, Lance Naik Imtiaz, Sepoy Asghar, Sepoy Mehran, and Sepoy Shamoon, " have reportedly embraced martyrdom, laying their lives in defence of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat of terrorism.”

According to the ISPR, an operation to sanitise the area was in progress with the goal of catching the offenders.
Such despicable actions by adversarial forces cannot undermine Balochistan's hard-won peace and development.
Security personnel "remain committed to thwarting their evil plans, even at the cost of blood and lives," according to the ISPR.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), an outlawed militant organisation, took responsibility for the attack. In Balochistan, a rebel organisation known as the BLA fights the Pakistani government. Balochistan's total independence is the BLA's proclaimed goal.

An intelligence-based operation in the Sambaza area of Balochistan's Zhob district earlier in the day resulted in the ISPR reporting the martyrdom of a soldier and the death of a terrorist.

The operation, which was started on the basis of "credible information," has been going on for the past 96 hours, according to a statement released by the ISPR on Sunday morning.

According to the ISPR, the goal was to "prevent terrorists from using any of the few suspected routes to travel across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border to sneak into KP (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) along the interprovincial boundary and kill residents and security forces."
