The floods in Bihar have affected more than 74 lakh population of 16 cities, and so far twenty-four people have died. According to the information received on Monday from the disaster management department, maximum 10 people died in Darbhanga district, 6 in Muzaffarpur, 4 in West Champaran and 2-2 in Saran and Siwan, due to floods.
Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Supaul, East Champaran, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, West Champaran, Khagadia, Saran, Samastipur, Siwan, Madhubani, Madhepura and Saharsa districts of Bihar are affected by the floods. In 1240 panchayats of 126 blocks of these cities, more than 74 lakh population is affected by floods. 1239 community kitchens have been arranged to provide food to the displaced people due to floods. In Darbhanga district, the population of more than 20 lakhs has been affected by the floods in 220 panchayats of the highest 15 blocks.
Apart from this, on Saturday, news came out that this time in the Darbhanga cities, the Bagmati river is intent on breaking all its old records. The water level of the river is continuously increasing. Due to this, the areas adjacent to the river have been badly affected. Increased water level has also hindered rail operations. In particular, a fierce form of Bagmati is being seen near Hayaghat station of Darbhanga Hayaghat block. The Darbhanga-Samastipur rail is already at a standstill due to the pressure of flood water on the railway bridge number 16 near Hayaghat station.
