Belagavi: Despite escalating COVID-19 cases and many government regulations in place to control the disease's spread, Karnataka Minister Umesh Katti refused to wear a mask at a public function, arguing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said "it is individual responsibility."
"The Prime Minister has stated that no restrictions will be enforced and that it is the obligation of each individual to wear a face mask. Anyone who wants to wear a mask is welcome to do so. I haven't worn it because I don't want to. It is entirely up to me to make this decision "On Tuesday, the Karnataka Minister addressed the reporters.
Umesh Katti, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is the state's current Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, and Forest. His declaration comes at a time when COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in Karnataka and across the country.
After participating in the party's padyatra, Karnataka Congress head DK Shivakumar reportedly declined to be tested for COVID-19, accusing the state government of attempting to "infect" him with the virus by exposing him to an official who tested positive for the virus.
On Tuesday, Karnataka reported 41,457 new COVID-19 cases. The percentage of those that are optimistic is 22.30 percent.
