For Indian Railways, REMC opens National Energy Management Centre

NEW DELHI: The National Energy Management Centre (NEMC) has been set up at the office of REMC Ltd, a division of RITES Ltd. The center's goal is to coordinate and manage the nationwide energy purchase for the railroads.

The state-of-the-art National Energy Management Centre was inaugurated by Naveen Gulati, member, Railway Board, in the presence of Rahul Mithal, CMD RITES and chairman REMC Ltd, and additional member, traction, Railway Board.

The 17 State Energy Management Centres that are active throughout the Railways are now reporting energy data to the National Energy Management Centre. The NEMC would act as a hub, providing Indian Railways with a practical single-window service.

By including the generation profiles of both conventional and renewable power sources, the facility will put its attention on scheduling and forecasting optimisation. It will also announce capacity changes, allow power interchange, and offer real-time timetable recommendations, creating a reliable and effective energy management system for the Railways.

The CEO of REMC Ltd., Ajay Kumar Singhal, underlined the NEMC's features and underscored their significance for the overall power use by various zonal railways. Several dignitaries, including V.P. Singh, additional member traction, Railway Board; Manish Gupta, ED; B.P. Nayak, director (finance), RITES; and A.K. Singh, director (projects), RITES, attended the inaugural ceremony.

Gulati appreciated REMC Ltd.'s work in installing and commissioning NEMC and stressed the crucial part that facility will play in national energy management for the railroads.
