India's First 'Cable-Stayed' Anji Khad Railway Bridge set for Completion

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the completion of India's first cable-stayed rail bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge in Jammu &  Kashmir.

The PM praised the project when Union Cabinet Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted that the bridge was finished. The Union Minister said, the bridge took 11 months to build, and its 653 kilometres worth of cable strands in total.
Minister Vaishnaw announced on Twitter that India's first cable-stayed rail bridge would be completed in 11 months. 96 cables are all set! #There are 653 kilometres in total of cable strands.

Darshana Jardosh, the Union State Minister of Railways and Textiles, visited the Bridge earlier on Thursday and expressed her gratitude to all project participants.

The first cable-stayed rail bridge in India is the magnificent Anji Khad bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. Visited the bridge site and thanked everyone for completing the installation of the bridge's 96 cables in a record-breaking 11 months, Minister Jardosh wrote on Twitter.

This asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge, which spans the deep gorges of the Anji River, a tributary of the Chenab River, she continued. The bridge is a component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line project and connects tunnels T2 on the Katra side and T3 on the Reasi side.

Minister Jardosh also said that it was the PM's goal to make Indian Railways the best in the world and that the nation's engineers overcame seemingly insurmountable odds.
