New Delhi: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday that confidence with China has been adversely affected after the border clashes and the first deaths in 45 years last summer. India's top diplomat told Reuters next conference that relations with the US were getting better and could widen under the new administration in Washington.

It may be noted that 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in the Khuni conflict in the Galwan Valley in the month of June with China. The Chinese military was also greatly harmed in the violence. However, China did not inform the world of its losses. India and China have been in a state of stalemate in eastern Ladakh since April-May. China took aggressive action on LAC, deploying a large number of weapons and about 60,000 army personnel.

In response, an equal number of army personnel have been deployed by the Indian side to counter any Chinese presumptuousness. India has deployed a number of combat weapons and other things, including missiles. India and China have held 8 rounds of commander-level talks so far, while 9 rounds of talks are yet to take place. However, its date has not yet been set. Talks have also been held between the two countries at the diplomatic and government level.
