Former Assam CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta airlifted to AIIMS Delhi

Former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was on Thursday shifted to AIIMS Delhi.

68-year-old Mahanta  was aifrlifted on Thursday evening after his health condition deteriorated while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Guwahati. He was undergoing treatment at the city’s downtown hospital in Guwahati for multiple ailments. The two-time Assam chief minister was admitted to the hospital on January 16 after complaining of complained of chest pain and uneasiness.

Earlier in September last year, Mahanta was admitted in hospital  in Guwahati after complaining of very high pressure. He is the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLA from the Barhampur Assembly constituency in central Assam’s Nagaon district.

Mahanta was the president of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) that spearheaded the Assam movement against illegal foreigners in the state, leading to the signing of the historic Assam Accord, of which he was a signatory. He along with the then AASU leaders went on to form the AGP, which wrested power in the state, making Mahanta the country's youngest chief minister at 33.
