Jaipur: The veteran Dalit leader of the Congress party and former Union Home Minister Sardar Buta Singh died today after a long illness. Buta Singh was 86 years old and was ill for a long time. He was also admitted to AIIMS about three months ago. He is survived by two sons and a daughter in the family. Buta Singh has been an MP from Jalore 4 times. In such a situation, Congress leaders and workers across the state have mourned his death.

Born in Jalandhar in Punjab, Buta Singh held many big posts during the Congress government. From railway minister to home minister, as well as agriculture minister and governor of Bihar and chairman of National Scheduled Castes Commission, handled important departments. Buta Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha eight times. The death of Sardar Buta Singh, a confidant of the Nehru-Gandhi family, is being seen as a major loss for the Congress party.

Today, when Congress is struggling to save its existence in national politics, there is a big shortcoming of the biggest Dalit leader of the party on that occasion. Buta Singh worked hard in the 70-80s to bring the Congress Party back on track.
