Amritsar: Vigilance Bureau of Punjab has arrested Congress veteran and former cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in a corruption case. Dharamsot was arrested on Tuesday morning. He had handled the Forest and Social Welfare Department in the cabinet of former CM Captain Amarinder Singh. A local journalist Kamaljit Singh has also been arrested along with him, who was working as an aide. The action comes more than a month after the state CM Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government warned of action against the Congress leader.

A Vigilance Bureau official has said that both the people have been arrested on charges of corruption. The bureau has accumulated a slew of evidence against the former minister when he last week caught a divisional forest officer Gurnampreet Singh and another man Harminder Singh Hammi, who is said to have paid a hefty bribe to Dharamsot. Hammi was bribing Dharamsot through Kamaljeet.

Let us inform that during the tenure of Captain Amarinder, Sadhu was made an accused in the scholarship scam on behalf of an IPS officer Kripa Shankar Saroj, but he was given a "clean chit". However, there was said to be sufficient evidence of his involvement in corruption in the Forest and Social Welfare Departments.
