Former Maharashtra CM Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar died in Pune on Wednesday due to illness. He was 89 years old. According to information received from his family, Nilangekar died in a private hospital. After the news of his demise, there has been an atmosphere of grief in the political world.

He was infected with Coronavirus, but he later recovered and was discharged from the hospital after being found not infected in the investigation. Senior Congress leader Nilangekar hails from Latur in Marathwada region. From 1985 to March 1986, he was the Chief Minister of the state.

Nilangekar resigned from the post of CM to support his daughter and his friend in 1985 due to allegations of tampering with the results of MD examination. The Prime Minister while paying tribute to the former Chief Minister wrote- "Shri Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar was a veteran of Maharashtra politics. He served the state with full devotion, especially for the welfare of farmers and poor. I am saddened by his demise. My condolences to his family and supporters."
